Stop by Urban Futures Farm this Wednesday, June 10, 5-8pm, or until we sell out of bok choy, lettuce, kale, spinach and mustard greens. Yum!

We had a visit today from one of our beekeepers, CT, who said the hive looked good! During this spate of hot weather, it’s important to make sure all the birds and bees are getting enough to drink, so they can do the important work of pollination. Putting a few rocks in your birdbath also gives the bees a place to sit and drink so they don’t drown. And make sure you stay hydrated too! 92 degree on the farm thermometer right now. Whaaattt?!?

After this week’s rain, the plants have jumped up!  And so have the weeds! It’s been all hands on deck to keep them in check, like here in the winter squash.

Thanks to Jami at Olympia’s Sherwood Press, we’ve got a sweet new logo for the farm! Business license soon to follow which means we can open the Farm Stand!

Yes, of course by August we’ll all be sick of them! But right now, there’s nothing quite as exciting as these little yellow zuchs coming on! We expect two weeks to harvest time!

We have tall fences around all our gardens on the farm just for this doe and her friends and relations. Sadly they are not so into any of the invasive plants we contend with, but have epicurean tastes for the tender young leaves of our precious veggies!

Turkey babies arrive next week! Time to build the brooder, where they will stay until big enough for the coop. Oh wait! Got to build that too!

Transplanting is a bit of a tricky business. You want the plants to get off to a good start. The tomatoes were looking a little unhappy, but have since perked up and look ready to take off! Add trellising to the task list!

Just planted out hundreds of Lina di Cisco starts! These little plants will produce the most delicious, tender white shelling bean by the end of the season. Think hearty white bean chili on a cold winter day!
